Product Description
Zirconium Alloy Tubing is a highly corrosion-resistant metal, suitable for chemical-resistant equipment. Its acid resistance is better than titanium and various steels, and is similar to tantalum. Zirconium is also very stable in alkaline solutions. Zirconium is completely resistant to alkali solutions and molten alkalis. The corrosion resistance of zirconium in sodium hydroxide medium is the same as that of nickel. Because zirconium has excellent corrosion resistance, it is much better than tantalum and precious metals in many cases. In addition, zirconium also has good mechanical properties and high temperature resistance.

The water cooling of reactor zirconium alloys elevates requirement for their resistance to oxidation-related nodular corrosion. Furthermore, oxidative reaction of zirconium with water releases hydrogen gas, which partly diffuses into the alloy and forms zirconium hydrides. The hydrides are less dense and are weaker mechanically than the alloy; their formation results in blistering and cracking of the cladding – a phenomenon known as hydrogen embrittlement.
